Senior Communications Manager
@ Bluesky
Summary
About the Company
Company Name: Bluesky
Industry: Social Media
Job Description
Senior Communications Manager
Bluesky's vision is to make social more like the web itself. We're building a social media app, but beyond that, we've created a protocol that supports a broad ecosystem of applications and clients. Imagine a network of applications — from microblogging to photos to video to long-form writing — all interconnected and accessible with a shared identity.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a sharp, strategic communicator who can craft our narrative and help steer conversation about Bluesky and the future of social media. As Senior Communications Manager, you’ll shape our messaging, pitch media, and lead comms across the company. You should be equally comfortable writing a punchy post, ghostwriting a blog post for the CEO, or briefing a reporter on technical infrastructure.
This is a cross-functional, high-impact role — no task is too small or too large for you, and you enjoy owning projects from end to end.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and execute Bluesky’s communications strategy across earned, owned, and shared channels
Write everything from blog posts and press releases to social copy and long-form explainers
Develop messaging frameworks that speak to different audiences: users, developers, media, and more
Pitch reporters and prep leadership for interviews, panels, and public speaking
Monitor media narratives, user sentiment, and internet trends to inform our voice and positioning
Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and growth to keep messaging aligned
Manage external comms partners (freelancers, PR firms, etc.) when needed
Navigate crisis moments with speed and clarity — and build proactive systems to avoid them
You might be a good fit if you have:
5+ years of experience in communications, preferably within tech or social media
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to shift tone based on platform, audience, and moment
Have worked in high-velocity startup environments where you ship fast and iterate often
Understand the media ecosystem and know how to build strong relationships with journalists
Are fluent in social — you don’t just “manage comms,” you get the internet
Have a track record of leading campaigns that moved the needle on awareness, sentiment, or growth
We're especially excited if you:
Are already familiar with Bluesky, AT Protocol, or the decentralized social landscape
Have experience working with or writing for developers
Can show us a portfolio of written work — blogs, threads, pitches, etc. — that proves your range
If you have a passion for storytelling, understand the market, and have the ability to adapt to the fast-paced world of social media, we'd love to hear from you.
