Job Description

The Head of Editorial is responsible for leading and managing the editorial team to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, engaging content across the company’s marketing channels. This includes developing & integrating the Zappos brand messaging calendar into daily marketing, as well as strategizing and executing the org’s key content initiatives (Tier 1 campaigns). The Head of Editorial will work closely with cross-functional teams including marketing, creative & buying to align content with the overall business and brand strategy.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the editorial vision, strategy, and content roadmap to support the company's broader business objectives
  • Own the strategy, briefing & execution of Zappos’ Tier 1 campaign initiatives
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of writers to ensure efficient, effective content production
  • Develop & maintain a brand voice & copy best practices guide
  • Oversee the editorial review and approval process to maintain brand voice, quality standards, and editorial integrity
  • Collaborate with marketing, buying, and other teams to ensure content aligns with user/customer needs and business goals
  • Monitor content performance metrics and leverage data-driven insights to continuously optimize the editorial strategy
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to identify new opportunities for content innovation
  • Represent the editorial function and serve as a subject matter expert

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

-8+ years working in a digital retail or media organization
-Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field; advanced degree preferred

-Proven track record of building, managing, and developing high-performing editorial teams
-Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong command of grammar, style, and tone
-Proficient in data analysis and using metrics to inform content strategy and decision-making
-Strategic mindset with the ability to translate business objectives into compelling editorial experiences
-Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
-Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
